Default Both a word of thanks and disappointment

As forumites who have seen my posts know when I joined this forum-around the same time I joined one or two others I will not mention-that in my introductory post I appealed to forumites living near me to take me out fishing with them some time as I don't drive and explained why I can't get out. Out of two offers from this forum only Bill1 actually was kind enough to follow up and now we've been out together twice and hope to go out again soon. The point is I had about six other offers-only one from this forum who I will not name who have now gone very silent. One exchanged e-mails and rang me once and was all prepared to take me out when the new E.A. license came into effect. He's now failed to respond to three e-mails and the other offers from other forums have vanished as well. The point I'm making is how can we as anglers encourage people who want to take up fly fishing if we don't do our part to help less fortunate anglers? Nuff Said, but I'm very disappointed and Thank God for Bill! HOW MANY CARS DO YOU SEE AT FISHERIES WITH ONE ANGLER IN?

sorry to hear about that mate. don't worry yourself over it too much. i understand why you are disapointed and take your point about helping others. sometimes things just happen. i've received a lot of help since joining this forum and have given a lot back too. stick at it with bill and you never know, things might just turn out ok for you. good luck with it.

cheers

burhan

They say that the Western Isles of Scotland have the highest incidence of schizophrenia per head of population in the whole of the UK. It's not clear whether this is something there causing folk to develop schizophrenia, or because it's so remote and thinly populated that folk who tend to avoid other people tend to go there because they feel more comfortable in thinly populated areas. Anyway, that's a long way round to saying that a lot of people go fishing to get away from other people! I'm one of them. Since starting to fish twenty years ago I've fished with a grand total of 5 other people. Two of them more than once, and one of those was family. I did think about responding to another, similar request, for transport help but realised it wouldn't work for me. Just saying this to try and foster some understanding here.

Cheers,

Neil

before my motor blew up i used to share transport to venues, i would always go my own way and do my own thing once there. Then meet back at the motor at a pre arranged time.

Just because you travel together does not meen you have to fish together.

Yea, I can see how that would work for some folk. Me, it's an important part of the day that I'm able to do what I want, when I want, and just please myself. Fishing is the only chance I get to do that. Every other time, I have to negotiate with somebody and take their feelings into account. So if I go with somebody else and arrange to meet back at the car in say, 5 hours time, then I have to stay even if I'm bored senseless, or I have to go even if I'm having a great time and want to stay for another couple of hours. Fishing by yourself is a different kind of thing to fishing with other people.

shpeil i was not having a dig at you........

I know what your saying, it is nice to be at one with nature and your thoughts, but somtimes i like the banter that goes with having company. Mines bigger than yours and all that jibe, its also so funny when a stray cast can land a mild scratch on someones forehead or rear end when the flie sets in...etc

If i do not get another motor soon i will be looking on here for a lift to venues sharing petrol etc.....

just hope they dont leave me there for catching more trout than them..

I wouldn't lose heart. You had two offers from here, and one worked out, that's a 50% success rate, you only joined in Feb. It's cyberspace people say things on the spur of the moment, then for whatever reason change their minds.

Ask again, there will be people who missed your first post, and would be happy to take you out. Or join a local club and see where that leads.

Wish you stayed a bit closer to my homelands!
would take you at least once a fortnight.
you are right re anglers in cars though!
one angler per car turns up to fish at fishery where there are many anglers!
unless of course is river for sea trout at night, might only be one car for miles!
regards
bert
