hi im a guy in ayrshire scotland and have bought a decent start up setup and would like sum help casting, ive watched a few dvd's, mel kreigers one was good, anyway would b great if sumone in ayrshire could help cheers

one problem i had when learning was ripping the rod back too fast, causing quite a jerky action and probably did my rod no favours either!

draw the rod back smoothly and push back in the desired direction....obvious, ambiguous and maybe of no help but i thought i would let you know as i know i wasnt the only person to do this, hope its of some help to you

cheers, i watched that mel kreiger video and he makes it look so simple, n he made a point of it, i think thats 1 of my weaknesses that i jerk it back to quick and forward too and get tangles, would love sum tuition and any other help as its so much fun when it does go right

it will become much easier, once you know how to do it, you'll be able to do it without thinking, a lot of people use a really fast action to gain distance but; a; its not necessarily about distance and, b; it can often result in tangles or even a snap/crack at the top of the rod...(voice of experience there unfortunately)

it will come...just keep practising

cheers for the comments, always love hints n tips , tangles have been the main issue, and noticed the last cast ive tried to whip it a bit harder and no not too so hopefully can learn quick as ma first rainbow of four pounds last yr was such a buzz id love to do more and its gettin warmer and better fishing with may coming !

Book a lesson, even if it's just an hour. It will be priceless in the long run and you will soon reap the rewards.

Casting is about timing, and not power. The more power you try to put in to your cast the worse it will become. Get to grips with the timing with a short length of line and then gradually increase the distance.

scanning youtube will give you a lot of help in how to cast but the trouble with teaching yourself is there is nobody to point out your faults .If you cant afford or justify lessons get someone to video you casting-this will help you to see the difference between your casting and the "pros"style
