I don't think the Golden Trout that we have are technically a different species to a rainbow trout so best check the rules of the competition before you start trying to catch one!

Firstly, Golden Trout are a sub species of Rainbow Trout and have a different latin name Oncorhynchus Aguabonita which in my book says its a different trout.

They are stocked in:

Trafalgar fishery, Salisbury
Chiphall fishery, Wickham
Grassholme, Mickleton

to name but three

Hope this helps.

Darned interesting read. "Golden Trout" are only 'Native' to some limited areas of California. Had no idea they had been introduced across the Pond. The fish have been put into some high mountain lakes elsewhere here in the US. But this will give you a good idea of 'if you want to catch one, this is what to expect in the field.'

Hi Fred

The GT is a true native of your country and the Rocky Mountains are mentioned as its common region. We breed them in the UK and they are popular as an alternative trout in many fisheries up and down GB.

These are different fish. Oncorhynchus Aguabonita is not the Golden Trout that we have in the UK.

Yes the goldie we get here is a rainbow trout with freak colouring. whereas the blue takes all the best parts of the rainbow and heightens them to be a great adversary, the golden (over here) typically is a flabby finless fightless freak of a fish best chapped on the head. It'd last all of a minute in the wild.

Thanks for the info will google those 3 fisheries and see what I can find.

This is an interesting comp I'm in , its pairs comp with the most sea and freshwater species in a year taking the prize.Under the freshwater section I can go for:
Artic Char
Golden Rainbow
American Brook Trout
Brown Trout
Rainbow Trout
Tiger Trout
Sea trout
Atlantic Salmon

I already have the Rainbow and Brown and am looking to tick as many of the others of as posible although I might struggle for a Salmon in S/E London despite the Thames being cleaner

I rekon you could still be in with a chance of a Thames Trout or two Dick!
