Post boobies, blobs & eggs!

Why do so many fishing venues ban boobies & egg flys, but not blobs? I know people tend to fish boobies & egg flys static. I have also seen blobs being fished both static & under the indicator. Looking at the flys there is very little difference between them. I know all the arguments about the deep hooking & the damage that causes to the fish, which is understandable. But fished properly these flys will hook up, just the same as any other fly.

Agreed, I never fish Boobies static although I sometimes twiddle them along the bottom when needs must, and whilst the occassional fish is deep hoooked, I wouldn't say it is a high proportion of them.

One alternative is to say no static flies, but then that rules out buzzer fishing!

Boobies and Egg flies are definately banned on some fisheries because of the deep throat hooking likelyhood and subsequent damage to trout when fished static. Blobs can be fished static but are more often used stripped like a fritz lure. There is no material to make them float other than the blob fritz.Unfortunately floating material in the form of foam is being add to blobs making them a foam arsed blob (FAB). Once fisheries get wise to this lure it will probably be on the banned list as well.

I have heard the rule being introduced now is banning the use of bouyant flies on all but floating line, this takes care of are new development in floating lure etc.

i guess an "innocent" foam suspender buzzer can be used as a booby on a sinking line. Its a bit like tax laws-some people will always find a way round

The Alexandra used to be banned on some fisheries because it was so successful.Dry fly only?Only allowed to cast into the wind?Only use this fishery if you have a Sage? The sport is in danger of becoming elitist. Not good.

Yep great flies, there was a stink in 80s i think it was about those being banned from fisheries for catching too many fish. But you must have the right wool for the dolls and chuck them away when dirty
