Just bought a 1km bulk spool off ebay for about £30.

I have moved onto braid for all my heavy line reels and much prefer it.

Although it is much thinner it does not stretch so you need to up the b/s to account for shockloading.

It can tangle easily and don't like it in breaking strains less than say 18lb

Its great and for pike a lot of anglers are replacing mono with extra heavy braid. 30 to 50lb braid is now recommended for heavy lure/deadbaits, which would be unheard of breaking strains for mono (12-15lb norm).

If you would usually use 6lb mono you would probably find 15lb braid to have the same diameter. In your case, you would enjoy more benefits from braid by moving up breaking strain than you will from having a lighter diameter in 6lb.

Braid is great for lure fishing because of it's very low stretch, you are in instant contact. On the down side it can cut into itself on the spool, particularly on multipliers, with disasterous consequences. I find that the heavier strength the braid, ie the bigger the diameter, the less this happens...............birdsnest
