Default Staffordshire - Venue suggestions

Hi,

I would appreciate some inspiration for Staffordshire venues, river or stillwater but not reservoir. I live in Hoar Cross, midway between Lichfield and Uttoxeter (South East Staffs) and would like to fish reasonably locally on rivers or attractive lakes. I know of Blithfield but would prefer to fish something different.

I did have a Burton Mutual ticket last season but used this for Barbel and although there are Rainbows stocked once a year, I got the impression it wasn't particularly consistent.

Please help if you can!!!

Hi, there's a few clubs with rivers around you - Leek & District, Derby County Anglers Club (DCAC), Derby Railway Angling Club (DRAC) to name a few, or there's some mainly coarse based clubs (and therefore cheaper) which have lower stretches of the same rivers, still holding a decent head of trout (plus chub, barbel and grayling), albeit not so well suited for fly fishing (hence cheaper) - eg Burslem Izaak Walton AS (BIWAS) and Fenton AS. I'm in BIWAS - we have some of the lower Dove not too far from you, I was fishing it on Saturday. Google the names above, or search this forum, for more details. DCAC also have a stillwaters, trout and coarse.

As far as still waters go, Seighford on the outskirts of Stafford is worth a visit. There's also Loynton near Woodseaves and Fisherwick near Litchfield. A little further afield, Ellerdine Lakes near Telford is also worth a visit.
For the rivers, the Peak District Passport scheme gives access to some nice pieces of water. You can also get day tickets on the Derbyshire Wye through the Peacock Hotel at Rowsley and also at Monsal Dale. I believe that the Isaac Walton Hotel also has a few day tickets availble on the Dove at Dovedale. If you want any more information, pm me.

Just to echo the passport scheme option for rivers. You can either go very cheaply (say £5 to £7.50 per day) or, for a similar price to a stillwater dayticket (£25) you can fish some very historic sections of the River Dove made famous by the later editions of the Compleat Angler.
