bay of plenty is fishing bets for fly anglers...intermediates with a lure for this time of year
its a drive though once you have signed in, right round the reservoir, you could walk it but would take aaaaages
the bay of plentry is the large inlet on the north shore...the long straigh bank above the yachting club is good as well.again on the north bank to the west of the bay of plenty...nwl have a pdf guide with a more detailed map.

and personally..I prefer Hury to Derwent if I was fishing a big north east water..if its windy at derwent, and it frequently is it can limit the fishing (and I think the any method bank already limits the fishing)
Hury is big but still accessible and both banks fish well, and because of its more upland setting the fish are usually close enough to the bank looking for food to make it a comfortable cast.
