Default New fly fisherman, bucks area

I have fished since I was a teenager and over the last year started Fly fishing, I absolutley love it and go when ever I can - mainly to Farmoor which I love and mainly boat fish, I went to sportfish at first which is ok but now Id like to try some new venues, my question has been posted before but I wondered if anything has changed since those responses.

I live near Amersham, Bucks and I cant really find anywhere that isnt membership ££££, Im just looking for some new venues - a change of scenery if you will and wondered if you guys could help, Ive looked into chalk Hill farm near aylesbury but Ive never been - any good ? or maybe theres somewhere Ive overlooked ? Ive been to Grafham also, went for pike and zander on the day - loved it there also but its a bit of a boot

Do yo guys know of anywhere else ? I am willing to travel for a great day out, Im also trying to get some other fishing friends into this, for the moment Im on my own and a bit lost as to where to try next....

p.s Ive only banked or boat, I would love to try wading also but again - dont know where to go

Cheers

Thanks in advance for any advice

Hey P@F, welcome to the forum. Have you thought about fishing over on the Tring reservoirs ? It has been a couple of years since I was last there but Startops and Wilstone were good for perch and pike on the fly, and Startops has some huge carp that can be sight fished for, they love PTN`s . Marsworth is more coloured due to the tench and carp in there so I don`t think it would fish well on the fly (although I did not try in there too hard). Then there is little Tring, the trout lake at the top end of Startops and the Grand Union canal that runs past the reservoirs, lots of lovely carp, roach and pike in there that put a bend in a fly rod.
Lots of water there to go at and with the exception of little tring, available on day ticket (or was). Nice pint in the Anglers Rest pub too, although the White Lion next door is worth a look, mainly due to the beer garden backing onto the canal with a resident shoal of carp that have grown fat on a diet of crisps and chips
Hope this helps,
Andy.

Welcome popandfresh

Presumambly you mean Church Hill Farm?

If Grafham is a bit too far, what is your limit geographically?

Andy382 & Loopy - Thanks for the replies, great help

Andy -I suppose I should have said that at the minute I was only looking for trout venues, although andy you do give me food for thought I will look into what tring has to offer as thats nice and close.

Loopy - I did mean Church Hill, my mistake, have you been there ? any good ? I read on this forum that there stocks are a tad low ? or its not good fishing ? I loved my fishing at Grafham but I was pike/Zander fishing, I not trout fished there, I was looking for some bank action also

Thanks again - anyone else out there with some Bucks info

Welcome to the forum.
Given your location this place is not that far. Elinor Bank, Boat or Wading, nice venue.
A smaller venue, no wading and worth a visit. Ringstead Grange

I hear the opposite on Church Hill Farm!

Haven't been for a few years myself but you could get along there and find out exactly what is the score.

I fished Church hill last year a couple of times, i found it to easy with the 4 fish limit & no C/R also found it expensive. Elinor on the other hand is well worth a visit it takes me 1 hour & 15 mins from Leighton Buzzard. not fished Ringstead yet but is on my list to fish this year.

There used to be a fishery at Latimer years ago. Also at Croxley Hall. I also wonder why you want to go anywhere else when you already fish one of the best bank fisheries in the country.

Latimer is a Syndicate Membership now & Croxly Hall has closed for trout fishing.

Church Hill is poor value and a bit easy really.

Elinor is excellent, as is Ravensthorpe which must be closer for you.

One of the Tring reservoirs, Tringford, is a trout water :

Fisheries.co.uk - Tring Reservoirs, Tring, Hertfordshire

It's pretty and I have never fished it but have seen fish being caught there.
