Default Leader connection

Hello all
After researching for a couple of weeks ive decided to use a greys loop on the end of my fly line(12lb mono or more?),ill then attach a Orvis Hy-Flote leader to it loop to loop.I will tie a surgeons loop at the end of my leader and attach a 3ft tippet with a blood knot for quick and easy setups.
Would this setup be ok?.... i haven't fished for a long time so any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Gareth

It really depends on what you are using the leader for?
I would think about using a water knot rather than blood knot to attach the tippet and a longer tippet if you can cast it.

The only problem with Hi-flote leaders is they are very visible because they are hollow they tend to reflect light very well. I would think you would be better with either a normal tapered leader or a furled leader.

Cheers for the reply Frank.
I'll be fishing mainly for trout m8,I was thinking of dropping the leader when fishing for sea trout .
Ive only ever used blot knots in the past(all I've know),so I'll take your advice and learn the water knot thx.
I actually didn't know that about the leader to be honest,i have a couple of different ones I can use, would the surgeons knot at the end be ok?
I've been thinking about a furled leader, would they be ok for trout and sewen on the river?.....the last time i fished,i used a straight through Tippett to fly line, with braided loop I made....thanks again

See steven (mrtrout) for furled leaders gareth, he's an expert on them, I'm assuming that youv'e looked in the knots section on the forum as there's lots of info in there.

The Hi flote leaders do not seem to turn over as well as the superstrong which I am now using for stillwater nymph, buzzer and lure fishing.
I use my own braided loops on both the fly line and top of the tapered leader then tie a small perfection loop on the tippet end. Then attache the tippet loop to loop.

I also use furled leadres for dryfly fishing.

I actually missed the knot section,so ill check that out asap, also ill look up mrtrout as I'm very interested in a furled leader,as i think it would suit me better,as long as its ok for river fishing etc.....thanks for the info lads.

Don't use a surgeons loop, use a perfection loop because it comes off the line straight instead of cocked to one side. Also loop to Loop your tippet on, you will be happy you did.
