Default Attaching a braided leader

I'm having problems trying to attach a braided leader to the end of my flyline....duh.... I must admit I used to get a mate who was great at attaching, them to do it for me. So I don't know if its just me or these things are a total waste of space. I have a pack of 3 and I've wasted 2 already so I'm on the last one, they're by lureflash and it says you have to insert the flyline at least 3cm into the braided connector but I can't even get the line to go in half a cm, I have a tapered line and I tried wetting it to see if it made a difference but no it just won't go in and it ends up unravelling..., so is it just me or is someone having a laff. If anyone knows what I might be doing wrong I'd appreciate it. If all else fails it could be the needle thru the flyline job like I used to do.

Thanks

mark

I personally prefer the braided loops to the needle knot although a badly attached braided loop can come off (annoying if you're into a fish) or become too stiff if you overdo the superglue...if you're not confident stick to the needle knot or, if you can, enquire with the seller of your fly line and ask them to do it!

Mark, try and get some Roman Moser mini loops, much neater.
And don't bother with the tubing, whip it with tying thread over the butt end, helps to stop hinging.

I'm with you wingman.
I have never managed to get the fly line up the braid. Tried again today after reading this thread and failed once again. I have now tried 3 different makes of braided loops.
So I tried a needle knot. The only needle I had that was thin enough wouldn't take my nylon through the eye.
S*d it. I'm sticking with the Greys Loop. Ugly and I always end up with far to big a loop but it seems to be the only game in town.

Have been using braided loops for years - they're great - even make my own.

One trick when trying to insert the fly into the braid is to use a needle to open up the braid before trying to insert the fly line. Another trick is to insert the fly line right up to where the loop reenters the braid and cover up the fly line/braided loop join with a second silicone tube. This reduces the "hingeing" effect of the line/loop join when casting.

These are they Mark, just sling the tube out, and whip on.
To my mind two pieces of tube will just exasperate the situation.
