Default Cumbria Fishing Festival, May 15-22nd - final programme

At the start of next week, with just over a month to go, we’ll have the Cumbria Fishing Festival programme finalised at last. Many events are fully booked, a number have places available and there are some newies that might be of interest. Further to my last posting on the festival, Clive Mitchelhill (AAPGAI qualified and FFF master casting instructor) will be offering a couple of riverside masterclasses called ‘Tight Corners’ dedicated to helping river fly fishers to master the slack line presentation casts that are vital if you want to avoid unnatural drag on you fly/flies. This was inspired by the excellent new DVD ‘Casts that Catch Fish’. Sample here

Then we have Lee Cummings, again an AAPGAI and FFF qualified coach, whose patch is west Cumbria, who will be offering several interesting options, of which more in due course. Similarly with Fawcett’s Open Day on the Lune at Underley on Sunday 16th May. As soon as I know who’ll be there I’ll post details.

We’ve currently got places available for the following events; kayaking, an introduction to river fishing, a tale of two rivers (Eamont and Lowther, with Stuart Broadhurst) and the Ladies ‘Big Day Out’ which takes place in June at Cleveley Mere.

If you’re not familiar with the event, the Cumbria Fishing Festival offers anglers wanting to improve their angling skills the opportunity to do so in small groups at waterside locations around the county, with an expert instructor to show them the ‘how’ and explain the ‘why?’. We think the programme offers exceptional value for money in these tough-and-getting-tougher times.

Don’t forget that Cumbria has a great tourism infrastructure which could prove a useful ‘bait’ to persuade non-fishing partners to visit this wonderful county at what is arguably the loveliest time of year.
