Default brown trout flies

Having joined Eaglesham angling association which has three brown trout waters i am looking to build up my stock of traditional flies and other flies which the brownies love to chase..
What flies would other anglers recommend i should use..

Hi FISH4FUN,

I wasn't aware that brown trout only took traditional flies? Are you talking about river or still water fishing? I'd say use any imitation of what flies around. Get a butterfly net and start collecting. Half the fun is in discovering what your quarry actually eats. And I would do a search for invertebrates in the water too, if possible..

Regards,
Johan

I'm assuming it's a stillwater you're talking about???My Favourite fly for the top dropper is a silver sedge when fishing a team of wets. So many good traditional flies for brownies. I'm definitely of the opinion that people get too caught up on their fly choice. Invicta, Dunkeld, Butcher, silver doctor and a few more bushy patterns would be my go-to flies...

I like to experiment with various flies but if they aren't working I generally revert to a black pennel on the point and a Kate Maclaren on the dropper.
Usually works for me. If not I go home

I'd never go brownie fishing without some black spiders (like my avatar) and a few zulus for a big wave.
