Depends on what fly your using and how the fish want it,both lines bring the flies up through the water in different plains ( think that's the right word? )

with a strong sidewind your flies will come round quite fast with the sink tip. The inter will keep sinking if you are trying to fish static. Sometimes you have to compromise depending on conditions and how you want to present your flies

all the best Nick

I usually go with a heavier fly with the floater, then if that fails onto an intermediate. I skip out the sink tip altogether. I have some but never used them for trout fishing and it doesn't seem to have stopped me catching fish.

Being fairly new to it, I find it a damned sight easier to lift off a sink tip than a submerged inter. That'll no doubt change when my technique gets better, but for now I'm concentrating on presentation. Airflow have got those cracking 10' super fast sinking tapered leaders and with a weighted fly (lure???!!!) seems to get down far enough on a 4ft fluoro tippet. Slow, fairly short retrieve before lifting off IMHO. I might have this totally wrong, but it's worked ok up to now.

had a few hours today started of on floating line and team of buzzers.
cross wind got up so switched to intermediate still with the buzzers not a sniff.
tried casting out and waiting for different sink times before a steady figure of 8.
your thoughts.

Default buzzers

Did you keep on the move or were there fish moving where you were fishing?
Vary the retrieve.Think how the naturals move and try to imitate best you can.
Rise and fall is sometimes good with buzzers using a smooth draw to lift the flies then allowing them to fall whilst staying in touch all the time.Sometimes very little movement works or "do nothing"(Arthur Cove) just stay in touch.
Washing line with buoyant point fly like a booby.Bit like a longline or you could always try....(trumpet fanfare) a BUNG/PIMP indicator:
All devious dark side tactics which can work on the day.Sometimes and a rendition of "here fishy fishy" can bring results.

Good luck JP
