Default reel rings stuck

Hi, Having recently gotten back into flyfishing I've stumbled across a simple but annoying problem. the threaded rings on the reel seat of my rod have got completely stuck / out of line with the thread! I'm sure there must be some tips to resolving this but having googled away nothing has come up! Any ideas would be most welcome as I was hoping to get back out there again and do some fishing soon and it would help if i could attach my reel to the rod

thanks,

chris

Do you mean that it has somehow become cross threaded?

Can you post a picture of it please?

Lubricate them well then use pliers to back them off,(if I read correctly there is no reel attached, try and straighten them by screwing in the direction you would lock the reel,as you may be lucky to go into the lost area under the reel seat then you can try and capture the thread by unscrewing lots of lube and slowly twisting to try and catch the thread again ,it may recut on way back you can get graphite paste that is used for lapping car valves in from halfords go for coarse and it may clean up the threads)as doing this you may be able to twist locking rings to gain correct screw alignment just go easy, if crossed threads may not be repairable,if you get reel off you may be able to clean thread with small thin file or junior hacksaw blade but go carefully.

The other option is if it is solid leave the reel in situ and just change spools.

If removed and threads wasted you could use a jubilee clip to hold the bottom of reel seat if an uplocking fitment but would mean carrying a screw driver or small nut spinner 6mm or 7mm to tighten /loosen reel.

Or one of the rod builder guys could replace reel seat ?

Definately crossed! try and do one ring it a time if you have locking pliers use them not too tight though, twist gently as you rotate use liquid soap or oil it may realign any damage on thread try and smooth out with a very thin file an emery board may even work take away any obvious scoring lube well and try and run rings up one at a time by fingers only with lots of lube keep us posted.

If it's only a few months old, I would return it. I had the same problem, took the rod back to John Norris, who promptly sorted it.

Try spraying the threads around the rings with WD40 and leave it overnight to penetrate. Dry the surplus off in the morning and then try moving the two rings in opposite directions ie the top one up the thread and the bottom one downwards. They may have jammed up too tightly against each other.

Greys G-Tec rod I take it!

Looks like both screws have got locked together, use mole grips on each screw and twist in oposite directions, should free them up. Can also lubricate before trying. Quite common on double locking as it has happend to me but some foreceps did the job. I am always wary of the same happening again so only unscrew one lock at a time.

Just wondered that if say, you put the pliers on and make matters worse, will it invalidate any warranty. Just a thought.
