Cleated rubber soles are the cheapest option when it comes to wellingtons and waders, right? But, in my experience nothing is quite as good for grip on stones, boulders etc as tiny metal studs, which can be a considerably more expensive option when buying a boot.
Over the last couple of winters, I’ve been aware that there are things called variously as ‘ice cleats’, or ‘ice grips’ that you pull over your footwear, the better not to slip on compacted snow and ice. The studded versions got me wondering whether they’d work over non-studded wellies and waders. Here are some of the choices available. Anyone tried them?
