Default Battenkill for me.

My Orvis Battenkill is my favourite reel, although I would get it in the large arbour if for a bigger rod as the mid arbour appears to leave a bit of memory onto the line but is a nicer balance on lighter rods. I have no experience of the Vision GT though so I cannot compare the two.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

David

Just bought a Battenkill 11 mid arbour, 30% of at my local Orvis store, it is a very nice reel. I think the Battenkill is being replaced by the 'Access' reel.

No experience of the Vision reel.

As said in the above post I cant compare the 2 but my Vision GT 2/4 AND 5/6 are fantastic reels made from quality bar stock and have a lot of stick and are still in tip top working order....never had a problem with em. The 2/4 only weighs in at about 3.5 oz and ive got it loaded with WF3 and about 80 yrds of 20lb of backing, they both have an awsome brake. My other reels are lamson but these are alot more expensive than the GT's but the GT's are worth every penny. Let us know what you get

Problem with reels being replaced is spares if anything goes wrong. The GT's are still a current model with Vision and as they are agreat reel I doubt they will stop producing them anytime soon

If we were talking about a reel by anyone other than Orvis I would agree.

I have two GT's and they are excellent reels. I have also owned Orvis reels and the only thing I don't like about them is they click both ways.

It's different on the Battenkill that I have. There is a sprung loaded pin that looks like it can be removed with a flat head screwdriver.

Probably the way, unscrew, take it out, turn it upside down, and screw it back in again.
