Default Anyone fishing the Yealm?

I was wondering if there is anyone active on this forum who fishes the Yealm in the South Hams in Devon. I live near by but have never fished it, I would like any info or advise on suitable methods plus general experiences anyone might have had there.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom

I had an afternoon on it last year with Paul Kenyon (great instructor BTW). It's a cracking little river. Angling 2000 booking office beat, £10 a day I think.

See Walks and fishes: River Yealm, Plymouth 3 September 2010 for details of how I got on

Regards
Peter

Great Article, thankyou!

I believe its now 12.50 on the WRT Passport Token system but you still have to book.

Thanks again!

Just thought I would bump this as I am planning my first expedition for next week, I'm a bit nervous of drawing a blank so anyone with any useful information please chime in.

A bargain at £12.50!

The lower bit is very different from the upper bit and I only fished the upper bit! This is a lovely, tumbling stream. I fished the duo, kilnk above a small but heavy PTN. Had plenty to both the dry and the nymph.

Enjoy

Regards
Peter

Default Yealm

I have also fished the same stretch a couple of times and agree that NZ style (Klink and gold-head hares ear) is often the way to go. The top section is tight for casting but holds some surprisingly good sized fish. Try the faster runs at the heads of the pools. Bottom section holds some excellent sea trout later in the season (but they are hard to tempt)!
