Default Fishing near Nottingham

Hi
Anyone know of any fishing venues near Nottingham. I need to be in the area towards the end of April and will just be sitting around waiting until oldest daughter gives me a phone call between 3 & 6pm. So I may as well go fishing for the day!

Don't know much about the area so any help would be appreciated. Need to be relatively close to Nottingham so unfortunately the delights of Bakewell etc are not close enough. Somewhere like Ilkeston would be ideal (i think)

Trout, Predator or coarse would be fine Im not fussy

Ian

There's always Colwick Country Park for trout, east of city centre by the racecourse:
Colwick Fly Fishers Club

Haven't fished it for 15 odd years myself since I moved from Nottingham but its pretty much where I learned to fly fish and I rather liked it Certainly a pleasant enough place to pass a few hours.

Shame its close season on the Trent - plenty of that to go at for coarse fishing!

Cheers Jeff that looks ideal, and I can get a sporting ticket too. Can't find much info on the web about starting times where to pay etc.

If I turn up at about 8 in the morning will it all be obvious?

And yes its a shame about the Trent, been a long timg since I've fished that river

I think, that as said by JeffR, that Colwick Lake is the only public fishing close to Nottingham. Unfortunately, it's not on the Ilkeston side of the city, but is not that far away (about 11 miles from Ilkeston). If you want to contact Colwick the phone number is 0115 987 0785.

If you are in the Ilkeston area then you might also look at places in Derbyshire (although Ilkeston is in the Nottingham area, it's actually in Derbyshire). The two fisheries which come to mind are Alton Manor Farm and Carsington Water. They are both a little further away than Colwick, at 18 and 22 miles respectively, but are probably almost as quick to get to because you will not have to fight with Nottingham city traffic.

Regards

Jeff

Give Walkers Of Trowell tackle shop a call they should be able to advise you on a suitable coarse / trout fishing venue in or about Nottingham

Cheers The Ilkeston bit was only because I would of been approaching from that side of the city. Colwick sounds perfect. As I need to react quite quickly to the phone call (unless I'm playing a good fish ). I fish Carsington plenty of times in the year and its a bit far away but would of been a good shout.

Cheers All (and cheers Ifor)

Ian

Default go for it

Colwick can be good this time of year.
Plenty of stockies and a good chance of an overwintered fish.
I went past there on monday to see how it was doing.
Lots of fish coming out on lures but the weather was quite warm and there were some large black buzzers coming off.

If you get there before the lodge opens you can post your ticket money with your details and collect it later.

I may get down on saturday, will let you know how I did.

Default fishing near nottingham

Hi Ian.
mate fished there Saturday took a boat out .All around him others were catching on blobs. but buzzers ect will work.
there are area`s that are dedicated to fly fishing and you can get your car close by. plenty of room and easy casting .toilets are at far carpark.
Costs £1 to drive round to far carpark.
council run green bailiff hut next to first carpark (free)
there is a mc donalds or burger king on the way so you can get your lunch as well.lol.

Ask them to let you in the barrier when you buy your ticket and you will get in for free.
Most of the regulars are friendley and will tell you whats working.

PS - on directions - basically follow the brown tourist signs for the racecourse at Colwick Park, but then on the main road as you're heading out of town go past the racecourse entrance, also go past the entrance signed for Colwick Country Park as that takes you to the car park for walkers etc - carry on til you get to a set of lights, turn right off the main road there into Mile End Rd then first right into River Road and that takes you to the right entrance. Hopefully if I've got that wrong one of the more recent anglers can correct me
