I've fished Buttermere a lot. The permits are available from eithe gates garth farm or in the pub in buttermere (or were last tim I fished there)
The ticket also covers Crumock water too

The water is like Gin so thin leaders are a must. I usually fish 4lb double strength.

Don' be put off by bad weather. the car come up when its really fowl.

Flies I'f take olive and yellow Comparaduns (from Turrel, size 16) for the olive hatch and for the wets, Kate Mclarren (killer) and a selection of the usual old fashioned wets like Bibio, Black and peacock spider, Hoppers (claret and rust brown) and some small nymphs.

Keep mobile and Its not unisual to fish your way right round the lake in a day. Best spots are dependent on wind lanes and wave. The buttermere end has always fished well for me along with the river inlet at the other end.

be prepared for Pike to take anything you hook. there's some monsters in there!

and I'd use waders, but watch out for the steep drop offs in someplaces.
