Re: Whiteadder Reservoir
Was up on Saturday fishing from the bank. Wind was... energetic! Reckon you'll want to drift. Take a drogue and a life jacket!
Team of traditional wets works for me, though I often stick an ace of spades on the point. I also caught on a size 16 PTN and a size 14 olive hare's ear, just drifting them round on the gale. The fish were sitting pretty high up in the water, so floating line probably your best bet.
Barbless/debarbed is the way to go as most of the fish are not takable size.
Watch out for the submerged breakwater, just opposite the cottage that lies to the west of the sailing club. it's marked on the map at the fishing club as "dangerous wading" (which is an understatement). It's usually under water, but depending on how full the reservoir is, it might be quite close to the surface. Actually, that might be a good fish holding area...
There's a pretty steep drop-off by the roadside bank, about 30/40 yards off the high water mark, between the submerged breakwater and the satelite car park. (Possibly also on the other side of the breakwater, nearer the sailing club, but I haven't looked there.) But if the reservoir is still as full as it was at the weekend then it'll be pretty hard to fish that effectively since it'll be under a good three metres of water.
The southern most (middle?) bay leading up to the inflow stream is pretty shallow and usually productive. I can wade out 20m or so and the water is still only up to the knee, so in a boat you'll probably want to fish fairly far off that shore.
Let us know how you get on - I've never fished it from a boat but my pal prefers boat to bank so it'd be good to hear what the story is on hire etc

PS Try a Kate McLaren or a Clan Chief on the top dropper. Black is the way to go.
