Default Blankety blank

Is there anybody out there having a "blank" time like me this season?

Since the beginning of March I've had 4 outings fishing stillwater twice and river twice. Not only have I not caught a fish of any kind I've not even had an offer

I know conditions have not been ideal, cold wind , bright sun and cold water but I have never had 4 consecutive blanks before since I started fly fishing over 20 years ago.

I've tried a variety of tactics and flies so it's not as though I have been stubbornly sticking to one method.

Is 2011 going to be a jinxed year for me?

Where have you been fishing?

I've had 3 outings so far and 2 of those have been difficult - 1 fish at Toft Newton and 2 from Morehall. I did have a good day (13) from the bank at Stocks though fishing buzzers when the conditions were worse than the other 2 days i.e gale force winds.

I think the weather has been changeable so far this year but we are still only in March so as the weather settles I'm sure you'll be back into the fish.

Wish I could have got out this week as this is the longest settled spell I think so far this year, shame its about to change again now my days off work are coming up.

All the best

Mat

That's very reassuring......I thought it was just me! I've been out 3 times. The first day was horrendous - freezing cold gale blowing but I caught 1 trout and failed to connect on two more using a small nymph fished downstream (it was too windy to fish any other way).
2nd and 3rd time the conditions were perfect - warm and overcast - so I thought I would try some more subtle tactics - zilch - not even a take. I tried just about every tactic I could think of from dry fly to upstream nymphing/wet fly....oh for a worm

Weather is warming up now (positively balmy outside today!) so hopefully this will switch things on a bit.

Thanks for the replies it's reassuring to know it's not just me having a hard time. What was really bothering me was that I hadn't even had an offer from a fish. If I had been missing takes I wouldn't have bothered so much as it would just have been down to my own rustiness after the winter lay off.

There's always another day.

Post hi.

I see from your profile, you visit the Dumfries area. If you want a good days fishing, contact wullie & wullma at Aulderneuk. I'm sure your doing nothing wrong, as you have been fishing a number of years. Remember we have just came through one of the coldest winters in years. I'm sure it will all fall into place, very soon. Tight lines
