Default Simon Robinson River Flyfishing Masterclass

In order to help promote attendance at the Northern River Qualifier Simon Robinson has agreed to lead a masterclass on competition river fishing.

This will be held on the Raby Estate waters of the River Tees on Saturday June 11th.

Simon should need no introduction. Even if you are not a competition angler this is an opportunity to get some tips from one of the best river anglers around. As he's not a professional guide this is a fairly unique opportunity. We are also only charging a nominal fee of £20 (you'll also need a permit for the water).

If you are interested then PM me with an email address and I'll send full details.

Robert Brown.

Those who have inquired about this should have received details. If not let me know.

It's also been suggested that some people might not know about Simon, so I'll provide a bit more information on him and the masterclass.

Simon is the current International River Champion. I believe he is also the only person to have won this title twice. He is also a past England National Champion. He's also a fixture in the world team and winner of many stillwater championships.

However, what is perhaps most impressive are his consistent high finishes in river sections of the world championships. This is the ultimate test against the best in the world from countries who consistently do far better than the home nations on rivers. He is probably the only British angler that can hold his own against the best in the world on rivers.

Having fished with Simon (and against him) and also seen some of the top international anglers I think there is no doubt he's one of the top river anglers in the world.

As such this event is truly a chance to learn from one of the very best anglers. As Simon is also not a guide this is an opportunity that is unique and might not be repeated.

I'll add that Simon is also pleasant, articulate and approachable; so that the day should be pleasant as well as informative.

The river here is also a great venue with catches of 100 fish in a day not exceptional. It provides varied water and numerous free rising fish that allow demonstration and practice of a variety of methods.

Even if you have no interest in competitions it is a chance to learn from someone who has proved he really known what he is talking about and not just a celebrity or self proclaimed expert. The methods are not just for competition, but would make anyone a better angler.

If anyone has any questions please ask.

I'm adding full details of this below, mainly as my mailbox is close to full and I'd like to direct any inquiries to my email.

CEFF Northern Federation River Qualifier -Masterclass with Simon Robinson

June 11th, River Tees, Raby Estate, Middleton in Teesdale.

As part of plans to support and develop the CEFF Northern Federation river qualifier we are holding a river fishing masterclass with Simon Robinson on the Upper Tees.

Simon Robinson

Most people should be familiar with Simon, who is widely regarded as one of our best river anglers. He is the current International river champion and the only person to have won it twice. He is also a former English national river champion. He is also a regular member of the England world team and a gold medal winner.

The venue

The Raby Estate water of the Upper Tees is one of the best river trout fisheries in England. The numbers of fish caught can be staggering, with 100 fish in a day not exceptional. All the fish are wild brown trout ranging to about 30cm. The fish are free rising and respond to a wide variety of methods. There is also a wide variety of water that provides the ideal opportunity to demonstrate methods and provides plenty of practice catching fish.

The programme.

Simon will provide an introduction to the methods and tackle for river angling, the competition format and tactics; and then demonstrate the main methods. He will then advise participants on setup and spend time fishing with the group to improve their skills. Other highly experienced river anglers from our group will assist him.

On the Sunday anglers can fish the water independently to hone what they learned on Saturday. Robert Brown and other experienced anglers from our group will be there to provide support and guidance. Robert is himself a former England River International who can provide guidance on technique.

For those staying for the second day there is plenty accommodation in the area. Further information will be supplied to participants.

Organisation

The course is intended as a practice session for participants in the Northern River Qualifier. Participants on the course will be expected to also fish this qualifier, which is being held on the Reeth waters of the River Swale on 10th July. We will provide guidance and support with this for those who may not have participated in this event before. This qualifier also provides an opportunity to see some of the regions top anglers in action, meet some keen anglers and improve skills. Further details will be supplied, and are also available from the organizer. You will also be invited to series of events we organize each month along a similar basis, including a practice for the qualifier on the Swale.

The cost of the masterclass is £20. This is excellent value for a day with one of Britain’s most successful river anglers. Simon is not a professional and does not normally provide guiding and tuition, so this is a fairly unique opportunity. You will also need a ticket for the water, which is available for £12 per day.

The course will be limited to 12 people, so book early.

If you want to book a place or discuss the masterclass further contact the organizer:

The organisers.

The course is being organized by the Northern Sport Flyfishers. We are a group of anglers in the North of England interested in sport flyfishing on rivers. We are interested in developing competition angling as a means to improve our fishing, understand our rivers better, meet like minded anglers and visit new water. We organize fishing tests and other events. Membership is free and anyone attending this masterclass will automatically be a member. Further details are available from the address below.

This is a great opportunity for anybody serious about improving their river fishing. I have learnt so much since I started fishing competively and my catch rate is much improved. Do not be put off if you not confident about river fishing, we're a friendly bunch and are happy to share or knowledge and experience.

Default Re: Simon Robinson River Flyfishing Masterclass

I just wanted to let people know that there are still a few spaces on this if anyone is interested.

I also want to let people know that this is not just a course for experts as some people seem to have thought. It's intended to be suitable for all skill levels and should be an ideal introduction to river flyfishing from someone who is a proven master of this discipline.
