Acid House is on a distinguished road
Thumbs down A sad time for the North West

Not known for my love of still waters.......... It is with great sadness I can tell you Clegg Hall fishery in Littleborough Rochdale is no longer open.
After trying most fishing whorehouses in the area and liking very few Clegg Hall was for me a little diamond in the rough. Not only for its near natural feel and pleasant scenery but for its owner and soul Mick. A nicer bloke you couldn’t meet, always welcoming and always ready with a nice cuppa and a chat.
Now nobody is going to make a fortune in pond management and I am the worst supporter of any stillwater but I did call on Mick whenever the mood took me to take a few rainbows and I’ll never forget the look on his face on my first visit when I bagged one of his elusive brownies.
It seems not enough other people visited his labour of love either so it looks like the coffers are empty and the water has been abandoned.
No body has been able to contact Mick and the website is closed so I would like to thank him for a few great days and his friendship and hope he finds more success in the future.

I'll second that Acid House. I went round for a days fishing two weeks ago to be told by a skip driver from further along the lane that Mick is no longer running it. The first pond had fish boiling all over. I returned home and tried the website but no longer available.
Shared many ideas with Mick and always took something for Max (his dog).
I liked Clegg Hall for the feed it had, spent more time looking at or in the water. Great for trying new patterns or ideas and had some great fish, best todate 8lb blue, several 7lb raindows and few brownies up to 4 1/2lb, plus many small perch. Sad it's closed.

It also seems a group of six or seven cormerants have set up home in the bottom pool so it wont take long to become a dead water. They may leave the 20 carp that are in there though.

I spotted the cormorants when I went. Basking on the spit that sticks out on the back pond, so much for scarecrow.

I visited at least once a week last spring/summer and had some of the best days fishing I have ever had, and excellent top of the water sport. The water was a real hidden gem and Mick was(and his sidekick reggae)a true gent. A real shame. I have tried contacting Mick on a number of occasions and even tried via facebook but to no avail. I cannot see me driving further up the road to Pennine, so it looks like I will have to find another venue. RIP Clegg Hall.

Not really knowing how these fisheries operate however could the local angling club not take a look at running it themselves?
Just a thought.

Re the cormorants & the carp....I have watched one trying to eat a 6/7lb carp....it gave up in the end but it had a darned good go - the fish must have been damaged !

Nigel

I hear the cormorants are suceptible to Lead poisoning !

This is very sad news, indeed. Clegg Hall was real little paradise for dry fly fishing. I hope Mick is OK after all. Some very good memories are from that place... I had some plans to visit C.H. once again, but Acid House blow away my plans with this news.... Pennine fishery is not far away but comparing with C.H. is somehow to much artificial and overstocked ... !

Somebody have mention fish eating devil birds... This is how Mick used to fight them, and I tried also....
