Default Dropper problems!!

Hi, i've been using 8lb Airflo sight free fluro for my leeder/droppers and have had various problems with the dropper tangling around mainline, when untangled the line curls causing ongoing problems. I also own some 8lb Maxima Ultragreen, i tied a leeder with droppers and didnt have one tangle, the stiffness of the line made the dropper 'boom' out from the main line, has anybody else experienced these sort of problems?

Yep, having same problem and seams more so in colder weather. I have even tried dropper rings. I have a line straightner which does work to some extent.

I've been fishing very small buzzers of late on my local stillwater. By small I mean 20 - 26, fishing them in teams of three. as a result i'm not using anything like the size of 8lb maxima (the fly bodies arent that thick !!).
But, I've been using Hends rollers for attaching the droppers. Hardly any leader twist at all. Sometimes the leader comes in with a dropper wrapped up a couple of twists, but leave it alone and by the time I've retreived the next cast, it's cleared, so not worth worrying about.
I've never got on with any kind of dropper rig, but these rollers are very good indeed.

Try puting some heat into the fluoro by running it through your index finger and thumb a few times. it doesn't solve the problem completley but does help take out some of the curls.

Alternativley switch to Grand Max Soft Plus (as I did) and problem solved but at 20 quid a spool isn't the cheapest answer.

Another good tip if using tippet rings is to smear a cm or so of the dropper tippet with super glue where it meets the ring. This makes it stand out from the main line and stops the dropper tippet wrapping itself around it

Neil

Oh and as a leader straightener,a piece of bike wheel inner tube works great

I too have found this.....i think the platinum must be slightly stiffer.....not so much that you would notice though.

I also use the Platinum and whilst its not completely twist free it is better than the sightfree.

How long I will continue using it though depends on weather its on offer in the shop when I buy leader material
