Default Casting lessons - good vfm

I finally got sick to death of tangles, flies catching anything behind me, hitting my rod and the final straw was when I had to pack in early one day because my wrist was too sore to continue. The thread about tennis elbow put the wind up me.
So I bit the bullet, took the padlock off my wallet and had a lesson with Chris68 at the NW casting club.
After 10 minutes my chin was down by my wellies and at the end of the hour I couldn't believe it. Without exaggerating I was putting in 70% less effort and getting 10-20% more distance without really trying. My line was falling quietly and in a straight line.
I fished for 6 hours afterwards in a distinct breeze without a single tangle and only hit my rod once when hurrying my final "final cast".

My flies must have been in the water for 20% more time than usual which showed in the number of stockies coming to the net.

Wish I'd had the lesson sooner.

(cash in a brown envelope please, Chris - a very patient guy, but sooooooo strict )

Bill

It was nice to meet with you and others today. Thanks again for letting me try out your rods, and flies and explaining your methods. I thoroughly enjoyed the day - we must get together again soon.

I also had a little advice from Chris and was also impressed with his ‘less is more’ approach. I have booked a lesson with Chris next week so I will let you know how I get on.

I recently returned to the sport after 30 odd years, encouraged by an Orvis Frequent Flyer 7-piece rod Xmas pressie.

Only used it once.
Trawl nets on the North Sea make less of a splash.

Currently using a mid-flex Statesman rod, bought in a January sale for £30.
It’s easier to use but I don’t get much distance and certainly no “swish” sounds.

Who in SE Wales can teach me to swish the Orvis, and how much should I expect to pay?

It it's a waste of money I'll swop the rod for a harpoon.

You will have a great lesson with Chris, send him regards from the Big Show, that should raise a smile from him as well.

He is a great instructor and will have you casting a fine line.

I'm tempted to say that if, at the end of your lesson you're not whistling cheerfully to yourself as your line unfurls gracefully towards the horizon, I'll pay for the lesson myself.

tempted, but not terminally stupid..............

I know it has been said before, but it is advantageous to have a refresher casting lesson before the start of the season. It pays dividends.

I’ll certainly mention the Big Show, I hope it’s nothing improper!

Very wise Pal.

If you could see my double haul I’d say you were financially inspired.
