if you were on a smallish budget and wanted a nice secondhand reel for a 4/5
rod what would it be, budget is arond £50.

I would speand an extra £10 a buy a brand new vision koma reel, ive recently bought one after getting advised on here and can not fault it, for price its a quality reel !

You might find an Orvis BBS11/111 or even a new Greys GLA from Grommit with change.

For not much more ( £59.99 ) Garry Evans has the Scierra XDP 5/6, weighing in at only 4.7oz it should match a 4/5 rod nicely.
