Default Grafham Today

Any news from opening day? I'm sure it will arrive sooner rather than later, but want to start a thread to get the latest info.

Cold but not wet! Personally I never had a pull but others were catching 1 or 3. The Dam was quiet but plenty of anglers along the willows and G, most I've seen on opening day for several years, so I'd expect the weekend to be busy.
Tide is still out so plenty of bank space at present.
The Grafham club members have been busy cutting back the overgrown areas in Plummer, Deep Water Point, Hill Farm, Savages and around the Sludge. A damn fine job they have done as well, opening up lots of lost areas.
I think the boats did OK.
Plenty of anglers at the wash down points but most never saw any Killer Shrimps!
Don't forget bank anglers can't start before 8am and must login by calling the Fishing Lodge or sign in when purchasing day tickets. Also must finish and be back at the Lodge to wash down before 5.30pm.
Remember the clocks go forward 1 hour on Sunday 27th so a later cut off time from then on.

Had a good morning on the boat, picked up 9 along the lodge bank, all to lures. Recent stockies no doubt, but cracking fish that all gave a hell of a fight. Didn't see a fish less than 2 1/2 pounds and we had fish to 4 1/2 to the boat. Quite a contrast to last year where I dont think I had a single fish over 2lb all year. Decided to try my luck in some other areas after lunch and didn't get another pull all day. Tried the dam, deep water point and plummers areas, and various methods. A few others were picking up fish in the afternoon though. I think the fish moved away from the banks as those taking fish later in the day seemed to be fishing sinking lines, I did give it a go but its not my bag really so switched back to the floater, so I might not have been getting the flies down.

Overall a very enjoyable day, especially as the alternative was work

In fairness I didn't get out much last year, moved house and had a baby, so not much opportunity for fishing. But the fish did catch from Grafham were all on the small side. I did hear mention that the stockies last year were on the smaller side because of the very cold winter, but not sure what truth there is in that.

I think it's fair to say that some of the fish stocked from mid-season were a bit smaller than those early on. I think so many were caught that the suppliers were having trouble keeping up.
Certainly the fish I had through the season reduced as summer went on.
