Default Ravensthorpe

Hi, newbie thread i'm afraid!! Gonna fish Raventhorpe tomorrow, anybody fished it lately - advice on tactics etc would be greatly appreciated. Will be fishing from the bank and only have a floating line.

Thanks in advance.

A floating line will be fine off the bank, and you shouldn't have to cast far to be covering fish.Listen to the warden's advice as they are very helpful, and will let you know which platforms (westerleys forecast tomorrow) are fishing best, though the fish are usually well distributed.I would fish either a small black lure, such as the Pitsford pea, or a cruncher, fished slowly.Buzzers will be worth a go later in the day, once it warms up.Good luck!

Good advice above.

Have fished it a couple of times since it opened.

There are fish off mongers point (the wardens will put you right) and if you have waders, there are alot of fish behind the island. Don't fish directly behind the island, you want to be fishing on the dam side. Work along that bank until you find them......there are plenty there! Some big fish showing too. As mentioned, waders are crucial for fishing near the island.

Have heard that there are fish off the far end platforms near the domes but havn't fished up there myself yet.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

My mate fished it last weekend and had 16, up to 6lb, mainly on bloodworm type patterns. Fish were in pockets, but once he found them catching them wasn't too difficult.

Really enjoyable day, bought 2 fish catch and release ticket, returning 5 and keeping the 2. Still havent caught a fish on a buzzer!! tried my damndest but they just weren't having it although there was a substantial ammount hatching, surrounding anglers found it the same. Black and green lures retreived relatively slowly proving the best way for me with one or two fish caught on a damsel.

Generally - Very happy, only the 4th time i have flyfished since 1990, have got the bug in a big way!! Fellow anglers were all very helpfull and sociable making the day one to remember.

Top Bananna!!! Bit early for the buzzer yet.......just wait until May....you won't be able to get one back to the bank without a fish on!!!

Glad you had a good day, as has been said when they are on the buzzers you'll get your arm pulled off, or lose your rod if you are foolish enough to put it down.I've only fished Ravo once this season, and unfortunately there had been a heavy frost the night before, which upset the fish.I stuggled to catch two fish, even using lures in desperation. When I gutted the fish I kept it was full of small, very black buzzers, though you wouldn't have thought a single fish was feeding.Next time you get out try buzzers fished static, you may be surprised.I fished Pitsford yesterday and they were really pulling a team drifted round in the wave. Those fishing lures only had odd fish.

Fished Ravo yesterday from a boat but the guys on the bank were doing well, the middle platforms are probably best. The fish were feeding mainly in the morning. There was a good buzzer hatch and the fish were cetainly on them.Floating line ,long leader and very, very slow.
