Default straightening a new fly line

hi all.
I tried a new floating fly line (came in a plastic bag).
after a few casts I noticed it had a few kinks in it so I striped it off and started stretching it.
I held the fly line in between my hands and pulled apart result line slips through hands.
So took a wrap around both hands and pulled apart again result stretch i n g.
Only thing is by wrapping line around hands it puts an angle into the line .
THOUGHT.
does this method induce other kinks into line .
would tying one end to a tree and other end to my land rover discovery work
Question .
What do you do.
rgds disco duck.

use a swivel tied or screwed to your fence (or a tree), tie your line via a bit of leader to the swivel, pull to stretch. Start at the reel end and run a damp cloth all the way to the swivel, it takes out memory and stretches the line, do it a few times

Soaking in warm water can also help before stretching.

Me i either play off all the line and walk through a field of grass dragging the line behind me.Or i have a snap link roller sea swivel that i attach to pic hook on a post, attach the line to the swivel walk backwards slightly pulling on the line as i go

I need to learn how to type faster

How did you load it onto your reel?

With new lines you must ensure that you don't introduce 'twist' to them by laying them on the floor, or wherever, and spooling the coils onto your reel.

Roll up a newspaper, slip it into the centre of the coiled line and let the line unroll as you reel it onto your spool.

Just in case you ever buy another line in a placcy bag,the end you attach to the backing is on the outside of the coil

This works but a good tip I got was to tie it on with mono thats rated for abour 12lb as this abut the best to stretch it at.

Also leave the line to relax a bit after stretching otherwise it contracts on the reel making tighter coils

Cast the whole line right to the backing; leave it for a minute or two to "relax"; then reel in

Seriously, lines bought cheap and supplied not on a spool are a pain in the **** to spool. If there are kinks you have most likely put them there. Put the reel on the rod, put the line through the rings, cast as far as you can then pull the rest of the line from the spool. Ease the kinks from the line, then reel in a rod length at a time, raising the rod tip after each rod length to shake any kinks down the line. Keep doing this until you have spooled the entire line.

Next cheap line: do what Lighthouse said with the rolled newspaper ...

Andrew
