Default 3 days and no nights on the Abercothi

Cothi, CharlieH, Sewinman, Tigermoth and I went out to the Abercothi for 3 (potential) nights on the Towy. As it turned out we were in the midst of a flood and the first morning was greeted with the sight of the Towy having burst her banks in a nice chocolate colour.
Consequently, after teaching me how to spin, Sewinman and I somehow managed a lock-in at 11.30am in one of the locals. The first day was a rather dry affair from an angling perspective but extremely wet in every other way.

Here's how it looked from the window of the house:

And here's what it looked like inside the house:

It was also amusing to find that we'd brought drinks which reminded us of some of the more prolific posters on the forum:

One of those lives in Minesota and one in Barbados but I can't say which...

Anyway, morning of the second day found that we could fish the Cothi which had cleared enough to take the fly. Here's us tackling up:

By this point we'd been joined by Haslam (Colin) who proved to be a great addition not only in angling terms but back home when the craic was flowing.

That said, we were soon joined by Sabu from the forums who was in Carmarthen to try to save some septic cattle or some such:

However he found out that he was not required as there were coach loads of support gathering around Carmarthen:

Thankfully he was soon chased off the estate by the mahseer god himself who had just flown in to make a bid on Golden Grove both to save angling forever and to give him good private fishing. We only managed a fleeting glimpse of him as he rushed through the trees throwing raggi paste balls into to the junction pool and giving Cothi the 'bird':

Anyway as things settled down we began to fish, and fish suruprisingly well considering the conditions and our hangovers:

Here's some shots of the Cothi and Towy confluence - note the Cothi on the left is clearer and darker:

That day saw me take 1, Haslam take 2, Tigermoth take 2 (his first sewin and first time with a double hander) and CharlieH take 1. Here's Haslam with the largest one of 4lbs (note was bleeding badly so had to be knocked on the head:

Before long the wine was again flowing and the Cohibas puffing:

And I'm not sure why, but Cothi winning an award from Haslam :

The next day saw us on the next beat up of the Cothi and some spinning on the still high and coloured Towy. CharlieH took 2, Tigermoth took 1 and Cothi (the person, not the river) took 1. I lost a salmon as did Haslam.
Before long it was off to the Cresseli arms and then back to the ranch where Cothi had put on entertainment in the form of Rebecca who'd dropped in to turf out the foreigners:

Great craic and fishing. Thanks to the Jones boys for organising it and for the others for the excellent company.

Nice update. Looks like the river was running at a good pace. Looks like a good time was had by all.

Just one small point, Bri. In the future, please avoid showing me (or a bottle of anything that somehow reminds you of me) in such close proximity to a bottle of--oh God, give me the strength to even write it-- of. . . . of. . . . of Australian Merlot.

Good Lord, but if this precipitous decline continues, next year will see you swilling Skippy Shiraz from plastic cups. Standards, please! You don't want to be known as the one who brought down Welsh culture.

I have enjoyed a Mexican Petit syrha over the weekend ,SWMBO and I rated it very highly.NB stopping smoking has rejuvinated the taste buds
As to your comment re plastic glasses ,they are simply the way to go for a shore lunch with a spot of claret!

I am especially proud of the two wine glasses, practically empty, in the 'tackling up' picture.

"I walked across the beach to the junction and, with a calculating eye, watched the waters. The ****** roared in from my right, in angry red-brown flood. The smaller tributary, at present an opaque greenish-grey in colour, approached from behind my right shoulder, pushed a yard or two into the tide and was once devoured."

Who wrote that, and about what river?
