Not fished stocks for a couple of months so I can't give you any first hand information, but one of my friends had 8 out earlier this week on buzzers so if the rain hasn't coloured the water it should fish well.

The reports suggest that there are plenty of fish moving into the newly flooded ground.

I was toying with the idea of going tomorrow, but with the wind due to pick up I think I'll fish the River Dove instead (if it's fishable).

Regards,
Terry

I fish it every week Gazmeister and its very hit and miss at present both from the boats and bank, due to the conditions changing 3 or 4 times a day, every day.

The key thing to note is that the fish are tight to the bank in most places, except in the northern shallows where, paradoxically, they have moved into open water and last Sunday it was impossible to get a take near the bank.

Damsels fished medium to fast figure of 8 were working for me and also Connemara blacks; both as a point fly.

The previous Friday, a Kate McLaren in the middle dropper was very effective but they wouldn't look at it on Sunday.

Experiment, keep moving about until you find a pod of fish and then stick with them. Try not to advertise the fact you are catching as you will soon have lots of company, if they see your rod bending.

Tight lines

Steve

Advice from the horses mouth (Obadiah) there Gazmeister, and likewise,I fish Stocks once or twice a week and can vouch for the sound info. Not much more I can add apart from...
Don't let the conditions, whatever they are,put you off. Stocks is full to the brim after all this rain - unheard of in July, and it's bursting with fish. However,as Obadiah said, conditions can change 3 or 4 times a day and can make things tricky, but there is always a bay or an island or drift that will suit the conditions and suit the fish...you just have to find it... and then a method that suits. Even through all this low pressure and constant change the fish have been well up the vast majority of the time and are just itching to rise... pick yer moment for stuff like hoppers and shipmans.
Get yer boat booked and have fun. Great venue, great staff and quality fish.

Please do Gazmeister, I've just tied up a load of multi coloured boobies: wuftas. puftas and shirtshifters to try on Sunday; I'm gonna give em Hell.

Don't worry about that. If you've a half decent boat partner he / she will take the engine and leave you to concentrate on your fishing.

Talk to the fishery staff and trust what they tell you. Matt is my partner in the Scierra pairs, he will give you any help and advice you need tomorrow morning and he cooks a mean bacon buttie as well.

Enjoy yourself, Stocks can be moody but there is always a way to catch.

If all else fails, set two orange blobs 10' apart on a 15' leader and strip em back as fast as you can. My teammate James was getting follow after follow on this method last weekend.Don't forget to hang your flies at the end of your retrieve for as long as you are able to.

Good luck and speak soon.
