Default Ah well, you can't hit fish everyday....

1st blank this year

Went out this morning, cold, raining and miserable day but full of high hopes. Having tried the usual mini lures and damsels with nothing; switched to buzzers, nothing; snatchers & crunchers, nothing; Diawl Bach's, nothing. All the while the fish were cruising the top, supping on something.
Long story, cut short; popped into see the guy in the lodge before I went, a guy comes in with 4, all caught on shipman's on the top. I'd been considering them all day but decided not to!

Ah well, you live and learn

I have days like that, you try every fly that should work and then flies that you are drawn to and then finally the fly you have in your pocket takes the only fish of the day

Classic example of what happens up and down the country at most fisheries . Another week or two and you really will only need dries

Easter Balado near Kinross; I was up there last Saturday and landed 6, then 7 at Stenhouse on the Sunday; today, not even an offer....weird!

Balado is a strange water, I've seen me landing double figures one day, next day lucky to get an offer on the same flies

I was aching to get out and try my new #5 set up, but thankfully opted not to use it today, or I'd have blamed the rod

Easter Balado is a really nice water and there is always top of the water sport. Plenty of fish cruising about mostly in sub 3lb category. I know most people avoid the boats as there is such good sport close in, but i think a lot of the lunkers are still hiding away in the deeper spots near the middle. Jon

Fished Lockwood beck today from 8am to 1pm, 7 landed lost 2 on the way in. Good day for me but I have my share of blanks. All today were caught on Dawson nomads.

Fish rising? It's always worth trying a Shipman's or a Griffiths Gnat.

I suppose if we all caught fish every outing it would take some of the thrill away
