Been there myself D.D. Seems a novelty at first but you soon get fed up when you want to fish yourself.

I landed a 14lb rainbow one of the first times I went to a stillwater. Nothing close to atht since. Also I've often been at of fisheries where a beginner landed the largest fish of the day while I was there.

Hence my theory that big old trout are fooled by rubbish casts - I find it comforting

may not be such a stupid theory .A big trout that has spent all its life in a stew pond when newly introduced to the fishing water may associate splashing water with the introduction of food pellets.Out with my 9 wt for opening day

all the best Nick
