Default advice regarding rod needed please

Hi Everyone,

I have been considering getting a backup for my G-Tec 9.6 #7. I have my eye on a Greys XD comp in the same format but I am concerned that the rods action might be a bit "fast" for me. I am certainly not an experienced caster but I can get a decent line out and cope with long leaders and a bit of gusting wind etc. does anybody have experience of the XD or perhaps knowledge of both rods for comparison. I accept that one persons view is somewhat subjective but I am unable to "try before I buy". my reason for looking at the XD is I admit weighted by the fact that I can get it a good price and cannot find another G-Tec in the same format as a 3 piece.

I will use this rod exclusively for small (less than 25 acre) still water work, mostly using a weight forward floating line.

i have nerver used a G-tek so cant give a direct comparison.I have an xd which is pretty fast but not as stiff as my echo distance. The xd will put out a long line ,is good when casting into the wind or punches out a good backcast if there is a strong wind from behind. It is also good for holding a long belly line in the air

hope this is of some help

all the best Nick

I have a G-Tec 9.6 in 7 weight. As backup, I got a G-Tec 9.6 travel rod in 7 weight. The two rods are different, the travel is slightly heavier and not as quick on the recovery and not quite as fast. It is better than my Snowbee XS Pro 9.6 in 7 weight which is even slower to recover. The only way is to try each one.
