Default "Buzz's Knot" © Update

I have been testing the "Buzz's Knot" for the last week and have added a second video on YouTube. I added two variants on the new video that should reduce the likelyhood of slippage of a poorly tied knot. View both videos and give me some feedback. I'm new to this testing of something as sacred as a fishing knot. You Gents have been very kind to this Yank. Again go to YouTube and enter "Buzz's Knot", you can also Google > "Buzz's Knot". Tight lines guys.

OK buzz,It could be my interpretation of what your saying in the 2nd video. But it sure sounds like you say pass the tag through the 1st wrap on the hook.Instead of saying pass it through both loops.Because in the final view you definately have it through both loops

No, the first sequence is for mono with just a single pass thru and the knot is just like my previous post last week. The difference is at the end where the tag end, after the 3rd wrap, is taken thru the loop at the eye of the hook away from you rather than towards you as in the first video. This gives a a better lock. The second sequence is for braided line and starts with twice thru the eye before starting the knot and then when finishing the tag end goes thru the small loop at the eye formed when we ran it thru twice in the beginning. In my first video I didn't take the tag end thru the small loop.

Add to that last post, it will take the tag end thru both the small loop from the twice thru pass and the larger loop at the eye after completing the 3 wraps. The second video has a single pass thru the eye at the start, and twice thru pass thru the eye at the start for slick lines. I m still trying to get better at my editing an keeping the video short, which is why the twice thru portion of the video was an almost completed knot. Your comments help me in figuring out how to best present the demo.

No big deal, but in the braid 2 loop version you do say pass it through the 1st wrap. That's 3 times iv'e watched it .and that's what you say.Even though you pass it through both loops.

Jim, that's what I say, which is different than the first video. I was just emphasizing the fact that you run it thru the smaller loop too, which I didn't do in the first video.

Hi Buzz,

Interesting knot! I've just spent the last half hour strength testing it against my favourite grinner (uni) knot. Using 8lb b/s nylon mono, I tied a hook on one end using your knot and on the other end I tied on an identical hook using a grinner. I then gripped each hook in a pair of pliers and yanked them apart.

The Result...

4:2 to your knot.

Incidentally, your knot was 2-0 down before 4 straight wins - this may have been due to my inexperience in tying your knot.

Cheers, James.

James, thanks for the feedback. I think it is a bit easier to tie than the Grinner Knot, but then I'm biased. I found just what you said in testing, which is why I suggest bringing the tag end thru the loop away from you at the eye after the 3 wraps rather than towards as in my first video. It seems to make a better lock and may eliminate most bad executions of the tie. Keep testing and thanks again.
