Default Sinking buzzers.

Hi,

I'm a novice at fishing with buzzers and when fishing buzzers at the weekend I found it hellishly difficult if not impossible to get the things to go sub surface. I was using epoxy buzzers with 5lb fulling mill leader material on a floating fly line.

Whats the best way to get the buzzers to sink? Surely an epoxy buzzer won't absorb any sinkant?

Any help or tips appreciated in buzzer fishing in general would be appreciated.

Thanks.

therealijn.

Hi Therealijn,

fish a weighted buzzer (or other type of fly) on the point and degrease your leader.
When fishing deeper use an intermediate (slow or fast) line.

Regards,
Johan

Might have been your selection of leader material. Fluro: sinks (sometimes needs degreasing and sinkant added), mono: floats but will sink when degreased and sinkant added. Copolymer: floating.
You also get fluro coated mono, copolymer coated mono and even fluro coated copolymer. These hybrids also tend to have thicker diameters.
Maxima and Drennan subsurface are monos that are supposed to sink, but still need degreasing or sinkant added.

lower breaking strain (finer diameter) leaders even flourocarbon can be hard to break the surface film especially if there is little ripple on the water

Try a buzzer tied slim and short mate, they usually cut through ok.

Surface tension is the problem even with flouro it can be a pain, degrease yer leader as said also add a heavy buzzer as said again , or give yer line a tweak after casting, as far as flouro being great for buzzer fishing , well i use it for dry flies to the lower the BS the easier it will float, i dont use anything higher than 7lb for buzzer work and 5lb for dries, cant see the point of heavier lines, like bloody rope, which can be a disadvantage as ive found out lately , now ive changed to mono for my main line when buzzer fishing under an indicator. To many people think fluoro is the be all and end all for fluff chucking but it aint, mono has advantages of being thin so equals out the so called invisibility of fluoro, which i dont believe and its alot bloody cheaper of course theres the environmental aspect to , dont like the idea of a line that will out last meGaz
