Default Thriepmuir?

Hello all,

Just moved to Edinburgh and trying to work out which stillwaters are worth a bash. Could anyone tell me whether Thriepmuir is any good? There seem to be conflicting reports (something about being drained recently?).

Had a thoroughly enjoyable (if completely unproductive) weekend at Loganlea - going to take a while getting used to the wind!

Thanks,

Matt

Club news - Malleny Angling Association

Hi Matt,
my mate is a member of this club and told me threipmuir wasn't stocked last year after it was refilled. It used to be mainly Brownies but would cost a fortune to restock it, so i don't know if they will bother.

Harlaw, below it can be really good and is also run by the Malleny club.
I noticed the website hasn't been updated for a while.

I have fished Loganlea a few times and is usually very good but when the wind blows between the hills it can be brutal.

Thanks for that!

Any idea where I can find information about Harperrig and Gladhouse? Are they open to day tickets - and do they allow bank fishing?

Gladhouse is boat only and could be a syndicate water now.

Harperrig was both bank and boat, but don't know if it is still open now.

Both these waters are both Brownie waters and you will get all the info you need on them by calling or going into Country Life tackle shop.

Country Life

Crosswoods is a nice water about 5 or 6 miles along the road from Harperrig.
It,s Bows with some Browns and is bank or boat.

Yup, last I heard Gladhouse is a syndicate water as is Portmore which was one of my favourite venues (not that I'm bitter about it ).

What you after?
wild browns or stocked trout? loch or river?
aint a divisive question, but as i have lived in Lothians all my life , i know whats about!
you are within one hours travel of some of the best of both worlds, loch or river, wild or stocked.
regards
bert

If I as after stockies from a boat it would be Crosswood and for consistent fishing Linlithgow early season. Broons, Leven is just up the road. Living in Edinburgh you are well spoilt for choice..The list is almost endless for fishing within 50miles.
My Favourite Glencorse is not opening this year unless they get a new lease holder a real pity.

Hi all,

thanks very much for the replies.

To scoobyscot: was there both sat and sun. Think I even spoke to you (were you wading right up at the top, where the stream comes in? I was the bearded Englishman shivering uncontrollably!).

To bert: I'd really like a go at some wild brownies, though at the moment I don't have a lot of time, so anywhere that 'feels' wild and is fairly amenable to a scottish newcomer to figure out is ideal. I'm going to delay exploring the rivers til it warms up a bit more!

To Peter Ross: have to say driving past Glencorse on way to Loganlea, it did look really appealing. How much trouble do you get into for wandering up and casting from the bank? Presumably there are still some fish in there (must be a head of wild browns?).

Thanks again folks - I can see it's going to be a lot of fun exploring the area. I've already wasted far too much time poring over OS maps and fantasising about the various tiny burns and hidden little lochs.

Thanks again folks,

Matt
