I used to live up in Colinton and the braid burn was at the bottom of the garden.I Tried and failed to get permission to put a waterwheel in. Yes there are browinies, my daughter used to worm and bubble float it.I taught her how to guddle on it.
I had a few casts over the years and caught lots of 6 inchers.I was using size 14 ptns. Stacks of stickies and bullheads. sea trout were "allegedly" seen last year at the section nr the old quarry at the Blackfords.I dont Know how they got past Liberton dams!!
I kick sampled it a few times in the 90's and the counts were amazing. They have done some major flood prevention work at Oxgangs very recently so i dont Know what its like in Braid burn valley area. I would give it a try.But not at braidburn valley too many kids and stones getting lobbed in, it is after all a park which is fair do's
Incidently the mention of otters on the web link is true there was a pair behind our house.

I live in Oxgangs. While the flood schemes were underway i noticed a few wee fish rising at under the road bridge beside Oxgangs Primary. I assumed they were wee trout as they were going for the midges. Don't know where the best part would be but where it runs through the houses near the barracks sort of Gallolee area looks good.

The braid burn is stuffed with troots, as a lad I fished it a lot with a free lined worm on a wee 5ft rod, since then I've done Ok with nymphs and dries but never as effective as the worm. I've caught fish pretty much its whole length. There are some surprisingly decent fish, some over the pound, but on average your only looking at a couple of ounces. Great fun though.

Norm - where do you get a permit? Or is permission not required?

Cheers

Neil

Norm, can you remember the best places? I walked through Braidburn Valley Park some good deep pools but the place seems to busy with kids and dogs running through it
