Default "Buzz's Knot" ©

"Dreamed Up", literally, this knot two weeks ago. Used for terminal leader/tippet to fly connection. Low bulk, high strength, and easy to tie. View on YouTube "Buzz's Knot" and try it out. Use it and share it, just give me credit for it. Old "Ulster Scot" with an appropriate last name for fly fishing.

Thanks Buzz looks really useful. My only concern would be the effect of cutting away the waste. Would the line slip back through and leave a tail from where it was to the bottom knot ?

Great looking knot, looks like an updated version of the grinner knot mostly used for tying sea rigs.

Have you tested it yet?

World wide Copyright, "to laugh." I just want credit. The Grinner Knot, I do not remember finding that on the 20 hours looking for a duplicate knot. I have tested it with 12#mono and it tested out at 14#, on my fish scales. I have people out field testing it right now. The lock at the bottom should resist coming loose with the tag end being pulled as the knot is drawn up. I use the tag end with teeth clenched to pull it tight. I had it up to 25# with 40# mono and it didn't slip. Need to test it with turned down hook eyes with a day's worth of casting. The hinge affect gave me fits with the Uni-knot. Held tight, but the fly disappeared from time to time with no fish on. No problem with normal ring eyed hooks. I added the option of a double wrap at the eye before starting the knot if the slippage occurs. Just check your knot often. Please post on your experiences with it. I have been looking for such a knot for 50 years, I ll use it till I can't lift the Fly Rod any longer. Appreciate your comments.

Looks like a simplified form of the San Diego Jam knot.
By putting a lock at top on the way down on the Buzz Knot avoids the lock at the top at the end of San Diego Jam.

The San Diego Jam tests very strong and came out winner on a strongest knot test.

-Alun.

different countries call them different names, grinner knot was the one that first popped into my head while watching the clip.

Looked up the Grinner Knot, and it looks like the San Diego Jam knot. Like you said regional names. Main difference is my knot wraps towards the eye and the other jam knots start at the eye. Cheers.

Copyright is automatic in most countries, doesn't have to be applied for. I'm not sure if it would apply to knots though ?

The post on YouTube qualifies for Copyright © in the US and covers the video and the name. Does it cover the process, who can say? I just went thru the process to get it into the public domain. I have it on FaceBook and on my Buzz Gillis Web Page. Three electronic audit trails is about all I can do. Having a Yank conversing you guys is a treat. Glad I found your site, the folks here across the pond always seem to think they invented Fly Fishing with "that movie" as they call "A River Runs Through It." My blood runs cold every time I see some one casting a fly with a tennis ball sized indicator attached.
