Default Drogue cord length

Just unpacked my new Wychwood International para drogue to fit some better cord to it when it struck me that the cord appeared quite long. On measuring it it measures 15 METRES. CEFF website (the only site where I could find a copy of the international rules) states:

A single un-weighted drogue is permitted, of no more than 60 x 60 inches or 25 square feet. It may be fitted with functional metal fittings such as small link rings and swivels. The only control device allowed is a 'G' clamp. The drogue may be fixed on either side of the boat such that the drift is square to the wind. The drogue must trail no more than 15 feet behind the boat.

I'm almost certain that the box that the drogue came in stated it complied with international rules so does anyone know Which is correct??

Are you sure it is already rigged to the drogue as 15 m does seem very long ? However if it is properly rigged and it was only 15' long you wouldn't be able to deploy it at 15' when in the water.

If it is 15m when rigged then all you have to do is deploy it at 15 feet, leaving the spare cord in the boat or if you really want to you could cut it off.

I never use mine .

it's definatley rigger properly. The cord that comes with it as standard is terrible and I want to replace it with something better.

The actual drogue complies with rules.
The length of cord/rope does not.
Most drogues always come with long lengths of rope, as the further out from boat the moe effective the drogue is.

Yes they do seem to come a little long. Still I suppose that it's easier to shorten it if it's too long than lengthen it if it's too short...............birdsnest

Sorry to carp on again but if you will buy Chinese made ... if you'd bought a British Made one from me it would have beeen

a) Much more durable
b) 7 metres of cord
c) Cheaper - Delta Pattern Drogue - Ebay !

But what do I know !

Best wishes
