Default Hardy Fibalite Perfection 8"9 ^7

Hi I am hoping some one my be able to help.
I have the above rod ( know its old but I like it) the problem is the joint is becoming very slack. I have not lost the top section yet but think it may only be a matter of time.
Is there an easy fix for this?
Thanks
Stuart

Rubbing the male part with candle wax can take up the slack and it will delay the inevitable for some time . . .

Two better solutions ....

i) Varnish the male with decent epoxy to build it out

ii) Grind back the female ( to tighten ) replace the whipping reinforcement if necessary !

Best wishes

I always used to wax ( just to stop multi sections flying apart ) until someone told me not to do it as wax attracts grit etc and can f.ck the inside of the female ferrule up by scoring it

If you forget next time, or it comes loose during the day, try a blade of grass between the male/female part and it should work.

BTW - an old fibalite perfection was my very first rod. (I was a lucky child!)

No worries, just that if you don't notice a piece of grit stuck to the male part over time it'll keep on scoring the inside of the female in the same place until it splits ( makes sense )

Standard way to tighten up a slack female was to cut a few millimetres off the open end of the female blank, then re-whip the open end. I've done that with spigot ferrules and follow-on types. Cheers,ja
