Default Slaley Hall Hexham

Hi Guys,

Am due to attend a conference in the middle of June at the above hotel.

Would appreciate any recomendations for a days fishing as most of the people there will be golfing, but one of my colleagues and me just want to chill fishing.

Thanks

Billy

Default Fishing Hexam

Hi BillyC,
The Boat Inn, near Hexam has day tickets for the Tyne just above the Meetings Pool at £35 a day, quite nice water.Stayed there last year but just after season closed.(Bad Timing) Worth a visit.

Nice lake in front of the 6th hole on the Hunting course. Keep your head down though

Here's a few for you to consider Billy,

Stillwaters: Derwent Reservoir is within five miles or so of Slaley, I think the cost was about £22 last year, fly & multibait are allowed, however the Northumberland (north east) bank is fly only. Another less busy reservoir quite close by is Waskerley, telephone 0191 488 4873 for details, fly & worm permitted. As already said, Knitsley Mill near Consett is nearby and also Witton Castle lakes, controlled by Bishop Auckland Angling Club, which is only half an hour down the A68.

Rivers: The River Derwent (which flows through the reservoir) is also very close by – Derwent Angling Association do inexpensive day tickets for the river at Allnesford and Shotley Bridge which can be bought from Frasers, Coatsworth Road, Gateshead; Allensford Caravan Park Shop and Shotley Bridge Post Office. Shotley is about 15 minutes drive from Slaley, Allensford about ten minutes straight down the A68. DAA water is fly only at that time of year. Further down the Derwent, the Axwell Park Angling Assoc. Do day tickets for the river at Rowlands Gill Park and Derwenthaugh Park (Winlaton Mill), which can be bought at the Rowlands Gill Caravan Park shop. Fly and worm permitted, the Gill is about half an hour’s drive from Slaley.
On the River Tyne, you have Tyne Green at Hexham which can be fished on day tickets available from the Tourist Board Office in the town.

There are extensive listings of venues right across the North East, as well as contact details for the venues mentioned here.

This is the one I chose when I stayed @ Slayley, not too far to travel and a cracking little venue with quality fishing.
