Default Dry Fly? Emerger? - On the Surface Water!

A thought occurred to me regarding DRY FLIES & EMERGERS!

Nice little Hackled Fly, put a tail on and make sure you've used a cock hackle; and you have a dry fly? Yes? You could ad a wing if you want! Still a dry fly-yes?

Then we have the Klinks and Parachute flies! Klink = Emerger Parachute = emerger, with or without a tail, because of the position of the hackle, the body of the fly is IN;and not completely on the water? Splitting hairs (or feathers) in my opinion!

OK, lets look at the Reverse Parachute Fly! Dry Fly or Emerger?

I'd say : A Dry Fly! None of the hook is under water while being fished on a drag free drift = a Dry Fly!

Gentlemen, What do you say? Reverse Parachute fly; is it a Dry or Emerger?

Looking forward to reading the replies.

Thanks

M

Probably both mate!
Where do you draw the line and does it really matter?
Shipmans buzzer, on the surface film, dry, emerger???
I would probably opt for "I dont care what you call it as long as I get fish with it"

Definatly a dry fly, an emerger in my eyes is a fly with 80% of the body under the surface, but i would still call it a dry fly, though some will differ.B

Isn't a Shipman's supposed to sit in the surface film not on it? I'd class it as an emerger. I'm sure the trout would be of the same opinion
