I lived up there for 6 years. You need to contact W.I.F.T - Western Isles Fisheries Trust. They can provide you with any info you could possibly require. Just google them for contact details.

If you're going up there from May onwards takes LOTS of anti-midge cream lol - Avon skin so soft is the preferred treatment....... plus you'll smell really sweet!

Seriously, the midge up there is unbelievable. Even in Stornoway shops have notices up asking people to keep the doors shut.

Me again.

As with the rest of Scotland, there is no Sunday fishing. It's only when you go up that way that the reason becomes clear. Sunday is the Sabbath - the day when all righteous people worship God. You may not have any religious belief but most of the people you will encounter up there do, particularly in the remote crofting communities. Stornoway is a bit more cosmopolitam and even some of the pubs are open but elsewhere the Island closes down. Sunday is the day for going to the Kirk, returning home to read and meditate upon the bible and then back off to Kirk.
Most people are tolerant of the English. Deep down they probably believe you're going to burn in hell for eternity but most accept that you do not share their deep religious beliefs and do their best to accommodate you. Even so many B&B's do not provide meals on a Sunday but sandwiches prepared the day before. If you wish to annoy them then play loud music, be raucous and get drunk.....or hang your washing out.
It's a gorgeous place with incredible fishing and more wild life than you'll ever see in your life but it is not just a place where people speak with a funny accent...or indeed in a strange language, it is totally different to anywhere you'll ever go to. In Rome..............

This is not really true. There is no fishing for migratory fish on a Sunday in Scotland.and as stated, in the Western isles.Sunday fishing is frowned upon for Religous reasons. But you can fish for trout, be it Browns or rainbows in most other parts of Scotland on a Sunday. It is not against the law.
