In Scotland the SEPA website has daily river level readings for most Scottish catchments: http://www.sepa.org.uk/data/river_levels/data.htm

Also, the various Fishscotland websites have very useful data regarding river levels that are updated twice daily during the fishing season (which is when, presumably, you'd want to know).

Sadly, England and Wales has no such equivalent to my knowledge. The EA Riverline premium rate phone lines are probably your best bet for current river levels.

Here are a couple of EA rivercall numbers that i use regularly and i assume there are other numbers for the rest of the UK.

Midlands 09066197744
Wales 09066197755

They are however premium rate numbers.

I have been using these numbers for nearly a year and when i visit one of the waters near to the water gauge i always get that days reading and make a note of the actual conditions compared to the reading. In this way I have built up a picture over time of what the water should like and it now saves me wasted journeys when rivers may be in flood or too low.

It is only a guide of course because the water gauge may be some way upstream or downstream of where you may want to fish.

Also the Wye and Usk foundation now have a web cam on a water gauge on the Wye at Erwood which is refreshed every 3 seconds and i understand this is the first of more to come.

I hope this is useful.
