Default UK Fishing

Hi Folks

Live on the Isle of Man, and planning to travel across, bringing my rod and reel.

However, not having fished in the UK for a few years now, what do I need to comply with the law in Scotland, Wales and England ?

And where do I get the appropriate paperwork from ?

many thanks

In England/Wales, you'll need a rod licence in addition to the fishing permit. Not got one myself but I believe they are available online from the Environment Agency. No doubt a forumite from south of the border will come along shortly to advise. Not sure about the salt water situation.

No rod licence or anything like that needed in Scotland. You just need a permit to fish. Sea fishing is free - no permit needed - except if you're fishing for salmon/sea trout.

There's an aberration in that in Scotland, the Border Esk is managed by the Environment Agency and you need a rod licence for that river even though it's in Scotland.

Thanks Neil

Thought that was the case, but didn't want to rely on 'thought' !!

For south of the border it's all on here

Environment Agency - Fishing

You need the licence even if you're fishing private water but if you're just visiting you can get a one or eight day licence. You can buy a licence at (any?) post office.

I don't believe there is any need to hold a licence for saltwater fishing.
