Default lothians advice please!

Hi all,

I'm just about to move to Edinburgh (next week).

I'd be very grateful for any advice on fishing in the area - in particular river/stream fishing within c. 30min drive of Blackford the area. Though any recommendatons on stillwaters would be great too - there seem to be quite a few, and I've no idea where to start.

I have a preconception that all river fishing in Scotland is ruinously expensive and dominated by tweed clad lairds wielding 14 foot spey rods - please dispel my fears!

Thanks very much in advance.

Dispel your preconception! Plenty of choice of high quality wild trout, Upper Tweed, £30 year (google Peebleshire Trout Fishing Association), Tyne, £25 year, (google East Lothian Angling Association (includes sea trout), Almond (Cramond Angling Club) - upland reservoir fishing in the Pentlands and Lammermuirs and a host of smaller streams/burns which you should have fun finding out for yourself.

Braid Burn passes Blackford Hill - very small but interesting.

Water of Leith - permit is free but watch out for stockies at the start of the season.

The Esk at Musselburgh - £5 per year.

The North and South Esks above Musselburgh - free.

The Almond above Cramond - free and very good.

The Gogar Burn - Like the Braid burn and a challenge.

Of course if the 25 miles of the Tweed in Peebleshire isn't enough you can spend another (say) £50 per year for the Galashiels and Melrose club waters.

The Gala water itself.

The Leader.

The Lyne.

You've arrived in paradise. Spend less that £100 a year for all the fishing you'll ever want.
