On the same thread as funniest fish.
The first time I went fishing with a fly was at Walkerwood in Tameside. Old guy John was the fishery Manager and give me some tips on what fly to use ect, telling me not to get to dissapointed if I did not catch on my first trip. For you who know Walkerwood you know there is a narrow section at the end easy to cast from and great for the begainer, so this is where John put me. Five minuets into the stint a Trout of about 3lb starter swiming in circles at great speed round my swim, guy on far bank shoots "been doing that for ages" next thing I know fish jumps out of water at my feet, I look down in disperlieaf far bank man shouts " grab the f***er" and John appears, "must be a bad urn that" says John and dispatches it to the great river in the sky. Me left thinking this trout thing is pi** easy they jump at you feet. how I have learn since

Default Funniest Trout

Actually I've had two experiences of fish jumping OUT of the water. The first was a long time ago when as a youngster I was casting bass lures for largemouth bass in Redfield Lake, eastern South Dakota when a three pound largemouth bass who had been following my plug suddenly jumped clean out of the water and landed at my feet. The only bass I ever caught without hooking it. Then last June when out in a bass boat on Banks Lake eastern Washington my boat partner and I were crossing the middle of the lake to get to the far side and doing a fair speed when a four pound kokanee(landlocked silver salmon also called silver trout) leaped clear of the water and landed on the floor of the boat. Strangely enough that was the Only kokanee we got that day.

The same thing happened to me at Elinor last summer. Fish were jumping everywhere, next thing, lovely 3lb bow in the boat beside me.

It was of course safely returned to jump again another day.
