Terry,

Frogs Fanny is a powder that you can either dunk your entire fly into or brush on - great for expelling water, not really so good as a floatant to apply to your pattern with before fishing.

The best floatant in my opinion is Dilly Wax which comes in a little toothpaste like tube - a little goes a long way and is not washed off with water.

The Flytying Boutique and Lathkill Flytying stocks Dilly wax which comes from the USA - they also have a version of Frogs Fanny called Toads Tush - does exactly the same at a better price

Kind regards

Phil.

I bought mine from Bakewell Fly Fishing Shop. It's very good but not the best. It is very good for reviving a messed up fly. You must put it on with the brush for best results. I find it very good when it is raining hard. The best floatant ever was the original Permafloat. Last year I bought a modern, Health and Safety version of it from Orvis in Bakewell called SUPAFLOAT made by Halstead and Hartley. Having used it for the latter half of the season I reckon it is about the best floatant around nowadays. You dunk the fly in it and false cast it dry. It continues working even after a fish has had hold of it if you use amadou to dry it off.

hello richard could not see that in their book, SUPERFLOAT they still have permafloat spray page 88 is that same, i want to change this season from those jelly types eg loon & gink as think clogs fly. in mayfly time i dunk day before in muclin silicone bottle and let dry, then on fishing day try superfloat spray. what you think.

I think the SUPAFLOAT was a Bakewell Orvis special offer, maybe a trial?

The spray Permafloat is a daft idea. Most of the stuff misses the fly and is wasted. Taking the top off and dunking might be a better bet.

Hi All,
I dry my fly in amadou then shake it in a container of FF, brilliant stuff, especially for a cdc fly after its taken a fish.
Once i have bought my FF i mix it with some rock salt.
Cheers
Richard

I am hearing good results about 'Water Shed', you apply it at least a day before using the fly and it is supposed to be permanent. If this is true, no messing about with gooey stuff on the river I have not used it yet...
