Going minimalist this season with a Fish Pond San Juan chest pack. Last season I used a Vision Mycket which was great for organising my stuff but was a bit too warm in the summer. You can pick up the San Juan from ebay at the moment for £25.

Are you deciding what to get on popularity?

Your choice might better be influenced by the type of fishing you intend to be doing... If you are boat fishing you might need everything but the kitchen sink with you and so use a box, or big bag.

If you are fishing tiny rivers and streams and expect to be crawling about, then a small bag like a Brady Ariel (lady's size) could be better as you can sling it round your back out of the way. If you can get to your sitting position without crawling on your tummy then a vest could suit you more.

Ever since i first started with flyfishing i seem to have a thing with vests, tried a couple of backpack/chestpacks/wastebags, but all didn't feel right to me.. So in short a vest will do me quite nicely..

Everything depends on the fishing and how much gear I need to carry.

Generally, I fish in remote places that require long walks and therefore I'm far from a vehicle. So in most cases I use a chest pack that allows me to take all my fishing gear + food + water + extra clothing as required.

Occasionally, I fish "drive up" areas where the fishing is done close to the vehicle and in that case I use a light vest.

I have tried lanyards and can't stand them. I hate all that stuff clanking about.

Well, it depends how popular you want to be..

Always use a vest, my mother told me it was best

Seriously, a vest every time, and when on the river I have a Lanyard, great for spools..

I tried an Orvis lanyard on in the shop and can't imagine fishing with them to be honest.
